Holden is appalled when he encounters profanity scrawled on the walls of Phoebe's school, a school that he envisions protecting and shielding children from the evils of society.Ceskahttp://marraige2last.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898652904509860380.post-78698511816279179542010-05-10T04:54:14.781-07:002010-05-10T04:54:14.781-07:00this book has a creepy following but I'm kind ...this book has a creepy following but I'm kind of excited to read itAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898652904509860380.post-25256377585497812662010-05-10T04:49:55.530-07:002010-05-10T04:49:55.530-07:00The novel catcher in the rye is a very influential...The novel catcher in the rye is a very influential book that shouldn't be banned or censored because it has a high academic learning valueAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898652904509860380.post-33477322854991133342010-05-10T04:46:28.235-07:002010-05-10T04:46:28.235-07:00I have to read this book in english class and it s...I have to read this book in english class and it sounds weird because we hear stories about people killing others with this book around them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898652904509860380.post-79573567035632970772009-09-21T20:43:42.455-07:002009-09-21T20:43:42.455-07:00Totally agree! I can't remember if it was required reading or I read it on my own. I had thought for many years the book figured in some ways in my life, but except for Holden's dream job description to Phoebe I could not remember much more about the book. I had no idea until I re-read it lately just how many things and how much of its content has played out in my own life. I have been expending much time reviewing and analyzing the book allowing Salinger, Holden and Phoebe to provide the first person interpretations of the book. I will create yet another blog exclusively for that interpretation as soon as I complete it. Although I have read many short and long personal comments online I believe all views have overlooked a most basic and fundamental point about The Catcher in the Rye. Namely, Salinger's source for the title and that poem's content, the significance of Holden's misunderstanding of the phrase and equally significant Phoebe's own precociousness to correct him on it.
